I was born in Poland but raised in Portage, Michigan where I now live with my family after spending most of my twenties studying and working in California. I am a 1998 graduate of the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and a 2002 graduate of UCLA School of Law. I am a member of the California and Michigan Bars and am admitted to practice in numerous Federal District Courts throughout the Country.
I have been a practicing criminal attorney since 2003, serving as a Prosecutor in Fresno, California and a Public Defender in Orange County, California. After trying challenging and emotional cases on both sides of the aisle, I found that a criminal defense practice is truly an empowering and liberating experience. There is no better high than hearing a jury foreman say the two most beautiful words in the English language: “Not Guilty.”
I am a contrarian by nature. I enjoy taking on the Government. I have a healthy disregard and skepticism of law enforcement, city hall and the police department-- something that is more than evident should you hire me to cross examine the cop that pulled you over, raided your house or threw you on the ground.
I have a particular interest in fighting against the Drug War. I am on the legal committee of the National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws (NORML) and have recently been awarded the Hunter S. Thompson scholarship to study cannabis defense. I am active in the Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan (CDAM) and have attended numerous conferences and seminars covering myriad topics in state and federal criminal defense.
I am a negotiator and counselor and am effective at using those skills within the boundaries of criminal law to fight for my clients. I do not shirk from trial practice when I feel that it can create the best outcome for my clients, nor do I offer plea bargains as only solutions.
